Summary: 197 of my 226 ascents were self-supported.
For the month of October 2023, I attained 226 ascents and descents of the Manitou Incline as part of a virtual race run by Cirque Series called the Max Vert Challenge. The idea was to achieve as much vertical gain and loss as possible during the entire month of October. It was a worldwide virtual event and the athlete could choose where and when to attain their vert. I chose to do all my vert on the Manitou Incline going up and down the steps.
Essentially, I lived at the base of the Incline for the entire month car-camping in the back of my Subaru Outback. I brought supplies from home in a cooler and duffel bag to last for 3 or 4 days at a time, slept in my car, and did laps on the Incline at all times of the day and night. Every few days, I would go home to shower and resupply for another multi-day stretch.
A significant majority of my laps were self-supported according to FKT rules with food, fluid, and clothing/equipment brought from home and cached either at the base of the steps or in my car. Except as noted below and in my Strava Activities, I received no outside support and did my laps solo. There were some occasions, mostly late in the month, where I did accept support from other individuals. This is documented in my Strava Activities and below in the summary for each day of the month.
In total, 197 of my 226 ascents/laps were self-supported. These 226 Incline laps were part of the so-called 500 Club on the Incline where one attains 500 laps in one contiguous 365 day period. Incline OGer Steve Stermer maintains records for those attempting the 500 Club; his tracker spreadsheet is attached herein as a photo.
