I've been eyeing this route for over a year. I settled on this day about two weeks ago not knowing the conditions would be absolutely perfect! Perfect temp (low 50s) with cloud cover all morning. I drank 34 oz (of which 17 oz was maurteen) and took 3 gels which was plenty of fuel considering the conditions. I ran the first half pretty conservative and nailed the negative split on the return. Trails were in great condition. Great views and (as expected) tons of climbing. Mt Diablo's peak was covered in low clouds the entire run which was pretty cool.
Side note: I know others have done this in the summer which is incredibly impressive. More that half the route is exposed on the ridge so the heat would be brutal (with no water on the route). After running this today, I wouldn't attempt the round trip in the heat.
