I completed the High Country Pathway Trail in northern Michigan by foot. It was a wonderful experience in what is among my favorite locations in Michigan. I wasn't setting out to establish a record but needed to beat some potentially cooler rainy weather with high winds. The night prior to my heading out was thunderstorms and rain, but this had cleared up by the time I arrived at the trailhead in Clear Lake State Park camp ground. I parked in the day use parking lot and walked acrossed the my road M33 to reach the trail. I began in a clockwise course of travel on the 80 mile loop.
I was solo for the entire trip, and saw no one on the trail the entire time. I was unsupported, used no pre positioned drop bags and carried all of my 8000 calories, medical, a 40*f HPG Serapé quilt/poncho, Bivy + Hot Sack, toiletries, headlamps, GPS + compass, Leatherman, Sawyer Squeeze + Nalgene + Smart Bottle dirty water container, Nitecore carbon UL powerbrick + cords and spare lithium batteries, BD zpoles, firearm.
All food was carried in my backpack and all water I sourced from along the trail and filtered/purified with a combination of a Sawyer Squeeze and Aquatabs.
