As a local the Veluwezoom is my favourite training ground. I’ve been running around the area for years now and know every path and trail like my back pocket. Recently noticed a new Veluwezoom route had been submitted on FKT and I just had to run it.
This morning at 07:42 AM right before sunset I started my run. With 5 degrees Celsius it was still pretty cool so I started at a high pace to get warm quickly. After 6km I spotted 3 deer and only a few moments later I stumbled upon a swine which swiftly ran away. Those encounters with wildlife is what I appreciate the most running at the Veluwezoom.
Arriving at Herikhuizerveld the valleys were completely shrouded in mist which gave some spectacular views. I really had to stop a couple of times to enjoy and take a photo since it was just too beautiful.
After around 25km my legs really started to feel getting heavy but I managed to keep my pace up quite well. My goal was to try to finish under 3 hours and was very pleased to finish well below that.
I’d like to thank Torben Osterlund for the route. Even though I did not run any new paths it’s always nice to run a new route from someone else.
