My wife and I were passing through the area and camped at Wolf Gap Recreation Area, so I decided to give this FKT a shot. I saw a couple of strava segment times around 45-46min, so my goal was to beat 45min.
This was an unsupported attempt and I only brought trekking poles, which I used on the initial climb and the final climb to the summit before turning around. I mostly power-hiked the steep uphills, ran the flats (which was difficult at times due to the extremely rocky terrain), and let loose on the downhills. I was within 1-2min of the record for most of the run, so I kept it controlled until the last downhill. I was able to make up some time and finished a couple minutes faster than the fastest time I saw on Strava. Fun but tough route!
