Set out on a Wednesday afternoon to see how fast I could get up PooPoo Point following the main Chirico trail, and was pleasantly surprised to clock a 19:27 to the first clearing and a 22:08 to the small dome just past the table at the top of the point. It was a perfect day for running--totally overcast, dry and about 45 degrees out. There were about 10 other groups of people that I passed on the trail, but I did not know any and did not receive any aid in any way from anybody.
While the official FKT description does not mention a specific starting and finishing location, I believe that the trail-start from the parking lot and table atop the true "PooPoo Point" indicated in the strava segment shared in the comments (https://www.strava.com/segments/24728306?filter=overall) make the most sense as official beginning and ending-points for this FKT.
Timing and GPS Track:
I recorded this run using a GPS watch and its lap button. The GPS watch got a ping once every 2-3 seconds which was slightly inaccurate due to the cloud-cover. I started the watch in the parking lot at my car and began running from there, passing over the official start of the trail (and FKT) at about 7 seconds in. The low GPS pings show an inaccurate, curved line at the start which does not accurately depict reality by not passing over the official trail start. A point of contention on the trail is the "shortcut" at about 1.6 miles, which cuts off a "long", roughly 0.07-0.08 mile switchback. It is unclear if this switchback is part of the actual Chirico Trail, and not just a remnant of the old PooPoo Point trail. The Strava Segment shared in the comments follows the official trail along the switchback, and so did I, as evidenced by the GPX track. I also did not cut any switchbacks in general and stayed on the trail at all times of the ascent (and descent :p). I recorded a "lap" on the watch upon entering the first clearing, and another just after passing the table at the top that was a suggested marker for the official FKT finish. There was a kind lady sitting at the table with two dogs that was clearly trying to hold the dogs back from jumping at me, so I made a wide berth around the table and recorded the second lap button after getting to the other side of the table and touching a metal dome at the top of the point. The first lap-time was recorded at 19:27.4 and the second at 2:40.8. Summing these gives a summit time of 22:08.2 from my car to a few feet past the table, which is a little bit longer than the suggested FKT route. However, due to GPS inaccuracies, I believe that using this number as my official time is more fair to future runners than trying to guess the time from the trailhead to the table.
Acknowledgements:
While the poor GPS connection prevented my Strava upload from syncing with the Segment shared in the comments (of which the CR is still 23:17 as of this submission), it did connect with another, shorter segment, starting from the new/old trailhead junction, about 0.2 miles into the FKT route (https://www.strava.com/segments/10300282). On this segment, there are 2 runners with faster detected times. The current record-holder followed the "shortcut" mentioned earlier, which I believe disqualifies an effort on this FKT by shortening it and utilizing social trails. Their GPS track also suggests that they did not reach the table. The 2nd place runner, Chong, may have run a faster time than I on this route. They did not take the shortcut and have a 10 second faster ascent for this segment. However, their GPS suggests they did not go up to the top/table, and there is no easily comprehensible way to discern their time to the top from their Strava upload.
