Report

This year there was an organised event for running between the two highest peaks in Bulgaria. On July 4th, exactly 4:05am a total of 10 people started from the top of Musala peak (2925m). The weather forecast was very bad for the day with a lot of thunderstorms expected. This is definitely not good for this route, because almost all of it follows the main mountain ridges. So nobody had expetations to really reach the final destination - Vihren peak (2914m).

I started quicker than expected, fully relying on the strong headlight in the technical terrain. As the sun rose behind Musala peak I saw that the weather was perfect for the next few hours and just pushed further. I was moving surprisingly faster than my last year try and on the 52nd km I had more than 2h15min advance! I started to think that it was possible to finish in under 13 hours, but this time seemed like something unreal. The last and most demanding part of the route was in front of me - 25km with more than 2000m to climb on very technical terrain.

But I felt better than ever in this last part and I was able to accelerate and finish on the beautiful Vihren peak in exactly 12h51min52sec! This is 2h38min faster than the previous FKT that I made last year. It was just one of the best days I had on a long run so far!!! And it was completely thunderstorm free, nobody was hurt and this is the most important.
