I was in town for a bachelorette party in Ashville, so I wanted to find a fun run and came across Mt Mitchell route on the FKT website a few days prior. I thought the pace didn’t look too far out of reach so decided to go for it. I flew in Thursday night. I drove up from Ashville Friday AM around 6am or so by myself. I did a mile warm-up on the road, then started my summit attempt at the 0.0 sign with a gel and small water bottle in a waist pack. Weather was pleasant, not too warm especially with all the shade. I did get confused at the top as to where to stop. I ran to the summit sign, stopped then decided to run to the marker on the observation deck since I had forgotten which was correct. I hit the marker at 1:29:23. With my stop at the sign, I ran 1:29:40. Beautiful day, took it easy on the descent knowing I completed my objective for the summit FKT.
