Was gifted with a stellar day to walk, hike, run, crawl, climb, slide, and fall my way up and down a bunch of absolutely stunning but unforgivingly gnarly terrain in the Presidentials. Definitely did not totally comprehend what I had gotten myself into until the summit of Washington, but maybe that was for the best, and I was somehow was still able to be in complete awe of the beauty of these mountains by the time I was facing Huntington Ravine, which I counted as a win. Getting up Madison Gulf felt like one of the longest trails of my life (turns out having to drag yourself straight uphill on all fours while already exhausted, dehydrated, and probably a bit under-fueled is pretty demoralizing), but then I was rewarded with a stunner of a sunset while heading down Watson Path.
Went into this not really eyeing an FKT but wanting to get done with enough time to get home to shower, eat, and sleep before having to be at work at 8am the next day, which I more or less achieved. I did make a point to adhere to unsupported guidelines though just in case, so here we are. I got water from streams and Madison Hut and carried all food and gear I needed for the whole day.
By the end of this, I was very ready to be done, but before I even got all the way home, I was already thinking about doing it again (but only once my knees forget how traumatic it was).
