Weather: Clear Time: 5:20 am (Sunday, 4th August 2024) Location: Bukit Putus
Mountain Name: First Ascent of Gunung Angsi

Gunung Angsi, located in Negeri Sembilan (825 meters), has two entry points: one from Bukit Putus and the other from Ulu Bendol. Originally, it was supposed to be a Trans Angsi hike, but due to fallen trees at Ulu Bendol that hadn't been cleared, we could only go up and down from Bukit Putus. But that didn't matter since it was our first time climbing Gunung Angsi, and I was curious to see what the summit looked like.

We gathered at USJ11 at 5:20 am and later carpooled. After having wonton noodles at Kepayang, we headed to the Bukit Putus trailhead. Lee-San handled the hiking permits (RM5). The weather didn't cooperate, and a light drizzle started, so we waited for a while. Around 7:30 am, we began our first ascent of Gunung Angsi.

The trail starts with steps that lead into the trailhead. We climbed uphill for about a kilometer before reaching the first pavilion. The distance from Bukit Putus to the summit of Gunung Angsi is about 4.4 km, so the round trip is approximately 8.8 km.

The rain grew heavier, turning me into a drenched rat, but hiking in the rain was a great experience. The mountain’s true essence isn’t in its height but in its spirit. I kept hiking upward, unable to take in the surrounding scenery as the ground became puddled from the rain.

I eventually reached the summit of Gunung Angsi in 1:20:22 [4.4 km]. My teammates Steven, Amy, Anh, and Chan had been waiting there for a while. I quickly took some pictures to mark the occasion, ate the bread I had packed, and waited for the others to arrive.

The rain continued to fall intermittently, and 40 minutes flew by. It was almost 10:30 am, and the rain suddenly intensified again. To avoid getting too cold, we started our descent.

On the way down, I focused on the steep descent. The rain had made the slope slippery, but fortunately, I had brought trekking poles, making the descent easier. Finally, after 3 hours and 20 minutes, I returned to the Bukit Putus trailhead.

After cleaning up, we went to Senawang to eat the famous curry noodles before heading back to Kuala Lumpur, exhausted.

I have to thank our leader, Lee-San, for organizing this hike and ensuring everyone had a great experience.
