Started at 1:58 AM on 9/19 from my house in Missoula. Ran to the start of the Bitterroot Trail, then reset my watch, which is why this run is posted in three segments. Ran to Hamilton on the Bitterroot Trail, getting water from gas stations along the way in the early morning. I was supported by my wife and father in law starting about 7:15 AM, for the rest of the day. They provided aid every 4-7 miles throughout the day, from the back of their car. My total time for the Bitterroot Trail was 15 hours 31 minutes. My total time for the whole 100 miles was 16 hours 41 minutes.
Overall it went pretty well. I ended up going out too hard, I had a hard time figuring out my pacing because I set up my watch to connect every 60 seconds so the battery would last the whole run. But this meant that my pacing data was all over the place (Fastest mile on my watch was measured as a 2:20 mile haha). I was in the neighborhood of 8:30 miles for the first 50 miles, hit a rough patch between 55-65, got a second wind from 65-90, then slowed down a lot in the last 10 miles. Since the Bitterroot trail is 94 miles, and the start of the trail is 3 miles from my house, it ended up being exactly 100 miles total. I measured the distances using Google Maps. Overall a great day, just am going to go out a bit easier next time.
