This is such an amazing route! Huge thanks to Justin Watkins for creating it and getting it on the FKT site. I am from Boston and did this on a trip to CA with my girlfriend. We drove from San Francisco up to Eureka so this was on the way, and allowed me to do it South to North. My gf dropped me off at the start and I was off! Went out a bit quick to start but it was hard to slow down, I was too excited! I felt really good through mile 20 or so, then things started to feel a bit more tough. The biggest climb that was somewhere in the later miles slowed me down for sure. From there I had some tough miles feeling a bit lightheaded and fatigued. I decided to take it easier to the finish instead of digging too deep into the well. By the time I could see the finish I was beyond excited to be done. This has to be my favorite road run I have ever done. The trees are so impressive and is a nice distraction from the pain of running for over 3 1/2 hours at that pace. I should have brought more fuel and water as I ran out with about 5 miles to go after rationing the second half. I did see my girlfriend pass once in the middle and could’ve asked her to stop for me to resupply, but I wanted to keep this unsupported. Incredible experience I will never forget. My next 100 mile race is only a few weeks away so this was a good training day for that too!
