Kristy and I, along with my husband Dan, set out to complete this route to satisfy a yearly tradition that we have where we run Kristy's age. Burr Oak is pretty close to home and we had never run on the Wildcat Hollow trail before so we thought it would be interesting to try. We weren't looking to go as fast as we could, but we wanted to get a women's time on the books. We started a little after 7:30 in the middle of the figure 8. We ran the Wildcat Hollow trail first. We thought it was quite lovely. The trail was very dry with the recent drought and not very overgrown so it was fairly easy going. We started at an easy pace since we had a long day ahead. When we got back to the trailhead that completed that loop we were happy to use the bathroom and refill water and food from our car. Then we headed out onto the Burr Oak part of the trail. Unfortunately at around 19 miles Dan tripped and fell on his side and hurt his ribs. He was in some significant pain, but decided to keep going. His pace continually slowed and when we were close to Dock 4 he decided he would wait there as Kristy and I finished. At that point Kristy and I picked up the pace and finished the rest of the loop. We were happy to finish before dusk. So the day didn't go exactly as planned, but we enjoyed the trail and felt good with the distance that we covered. We were very glad that there were multiple places to refill our water. The day was fairly hot so that was helpful.
