Simon and I had an incredible day out on Meru. We were accompanied by park ranger Dominic for the first few/ last few kms for wildlife protection (cape buffalo/ forest elephants). We refilled at Miriakamba low camp and at the saddle on the way up. Conditions were quite dusty/dry above the tree line. We were in the clouds once we ascended Rhino Point. Simon and I summited in 5 hrs and 33 minutes, spent maybe 8 minutes on the summit before heading down. We spent a few minutes at the saddle camp to rearrange gear before hitting the lower portion of the trail. Dominic rejoined us at the low camp and ran the rest of the way with us. We did encounter several lone cape buffalo as well as a giraffe family we slowed down for. We finished back the trailhead 8 hrs 30 min and 9 seconds after starting. Really beautiful day at a fun pace.
