This is a great route! I live down in Bishop and wanted to run this route for a while; it wound up being one of my favorite runs. I did this run in May as the temperature heated up, and with low shade, planning around water refills was important. I started on the northern rim in order to hit the guaranteed water refill spots at miles 22, 26, and 33 approximately, but I still ran out of water before the mile 22 refill. The mile 26 creek was high due to Sierra snowmelt and required some careful planning for crossing; poles would have made this easier, but alas, I don't like poles. The highway road running segment is really no fun - be careful and don't listen to any music during this stretch - cars come whipping around blind curves. The eastern rim had some sandy sections for 1-2 miles, but otherwise, it was easy running all the way around.
