Last minute switch up... I was supposed to be running Palmer Lake 24 Hr but it was cancelled on Thursday due to weather. That was a great excuse to run this loop. I camped at the mouth of Dominguez canyon on a canoe trip down the Gunnison in 2006 and was immediately enchanted by the place. I think about that trip often and I have been back a couple of times over the years for some short jaunts.
This time though... I just snuck under Giff’s FKT (20 minutes??) so for now I have the FKT on a super special loop for me. I did get lost a couple of times so if anyone reading this is trying to snag a GPX for their go... I’d suggest snagging Giff or the previous guy’s file. I think my mistakes added only .75 miles or so but I was in a pretty sketchy spot scrambling up to the mesa that I ended up having to reverse and down climb over some consequential exposure (probably not death but definitely hurting if you blow it... hurting bad?).
Pretty muddy in spots up high on the mesa... you know the kind. Absolutely perfect weather day out there. Very beautiful spot on the map.
