In this effort, Kilian broke Matheo's record on the route, set in May of 2013 on skis (5:05). Kilian actually started this effort with Matheo and summited with him. On the descent, Matheo fell in a crevasse. Once Kilian confirmed Matheo was OK, Kilian continued alone to the finish. When Kilian left Matheo, he at least left his rope with Matheo, and possibly some other kit. Kilian's route was packed out in the days prior by other athletes.
