Oh gosh! This has been a dream of mine for a few years now. I am still fairly new to trail running, but I just adore this mountain. While training to climb Mt Whitney in 2023, I started jogging down on all my preparation hikes simply to cut down on some time and BOOM! A mega love for downhill mountain running on technical trail was born. I definitely had to put in a lot of work to build some uphill running fitness & still have a lot of room for growth. But, very satisfying to increase that capacity slowly but surely over time! Mad respect to the ladies who set the previous record. This has been a lofty goal & such a fun pursuit for me for the last 2 years. A week ago I got within 6 seconds, and as a 4th grade teacher on her winter break for another week, I wanted to give it one more go. Temp was just 26 degrees when I started and did not get over freezing the entire time, so shorts and a t-shirt was aggressive, but hey! I wore gloves and somehow stayed warm (enough). Shoutout to all the gracious folks who let me pass on the trail today. When I admitted to many that I was going for a record, I was flooded with encouraging words and support and WOW! Super grateful for that trail magic. I am no professional runner. Just a former 2-sport college athlete with a lot of grit and a lot of love for self-propelled motion. Thank you to the FKT community for providing opportunities for such meaningful pursuits. Cheers! -Kimmy
