This was our first attempt at an FKT. We were inspired to tackle this FKT together after seeing our friend, Chip Howard create and run it a few months back. Ascutney is right in our back yard, and 2020 has given us more time to explore her beauty.
My hubby Guy and I set out on the trail August 20, 2020 at 5:48am. We ascended up Weathersfield Trail, as it was just getting light. The trail was dry, very to little water at the Falls. We only met one woman descending the trail near the top. We quickly snapped a pic at West Peak (Hang glider) and headed to touch the summit. We then headed down towards Windsor Trail to connect to Futures. Futures is a great trail to descend, as it has less rocks than the other trails. The trail is rolling and crosses the access road once, and you can also see the road a few times.
One the way back up Futures, we saw a black bear about 50 feet ahead of us. He walked off the trail and we were able to get by. The trail back up is long, but again rolling, so there are places you can run. We quickly touched the summit again and went out to the West Peak, and then made our way back down. Weathersfield Trail was bustling with families ascending.
We carried our own water, no need to refill.
It was a great morning to spend together on the trails! Ascutney rocks!
