I started at 7:16 am on South Shore Rd. in Wanakena and traveled clockwise. Though multiple sources forecasted highs around 60-62 for the day, it was an unexpected cold chilly start of 25. Hence starting in my sleep pants to complete this route. It was a perfect fall day to run with the leaves almost at their peak. This route has amazing scenery but can get a little technical in certain areas. The beavers have caused some flooding issues on the trail. Saw lots of ruffed grouse, a few deer and one porcupine.
This was my second attempt to run a 50, so I did the route supported. I did filter water during my 23 mile solo section, plenty of spots to get water. I am so thankful for my support crew William Wells, who paced me and my mother and father that came out to enjoy the beautiful day. It was exciting to get my first women's FKT being apart of Brandon Slokowski’s fktEndurance team.
