This was an unsupported attempt starting at 11:50 AM, traveled in a clockwise direction around Lake Lurleen. I parked in the South parking lot behind the entrance fee building and started the run at the small yellow pole. I ran Lakeside trail which then turns into Tashka Trail. You will keep following and make sure to stay on the Tashka trail, while you run you will see red mileage markers. Once you get to the end of the Tashka trail you will make a left on the main park road. You will road the run back to the parking lot you started in. You will make a right to cross over the car bridge and another right onto the small bridge to bring you back to where you started.
This run was a workout for me during my training this week. I saw that there was a segment on Strava called South lot to Pedestrian Bridge with a women’s time of 2 hours 25 minutes and 10 seconds. This is the time I used as the one to beat to create this Lake Lurleen Loop. If you are looking for a fun runnable loop that is easy to follow this is it.
The goal was to establish a route and a women’s time to increase future attempts. Since we recently started a Trail Sisters Birmingham Group, the idea is we want all womxn to see and feel like they can go out and run FKTs. Alabama currently does not have a lot of FKT’s and felt this was a great one to add to the list!
