finally submitting an old wander with friends.
about 10 days before a planned 50km race, a friend floated the idea of a long trail run in Snowdonia. having barely been before, i thought it sounded fun to explore some of the places i'd heard so much about. what a nice way to taper!
fast forward to that morning .. he announces we're doing the Welsh 3000s challenge and we position two cars accordingly. i have no idea what this means and nod along as the three of us gently wander up Pyg track. who knew we'd shortly be laughing our way across Crib Goch and Tryfan, taking more than a few ridiculous downhills and anklebreaker bogs at silly paces? we did jog between a few peaks too, but the day was mostly spent at a hike or walk.
we took a long pause to lie in the grass and resupply with a few bottles and snacks we stashed in advance near a road (hence the self-supported style). apart from that i don't think we made use of any streams - many were dry from the heat, and there were plenty of cows around to remind us not to partake without a water filter :)
now that i've run in this area a few times i appreciate this first adventure day so much more, and should really give it another go!
