It was a clear, crisp fall day and one of the coldest days this fall, but the weather was perfect for running an ultra. I ran unsupported. Carried 1.5L of high-carb Skratch with 1,200 kcal, one water bottle, gels, some snacks, and an emergency kit. The trail was so pretty, and I was happy and enjoying the foliage. It seemed as if a yellow carpet would bring me to an amazing wonderland. A tiny rainbow between clouds through my sunglasses was telling me, "You are okay. You can make it." A deer I encountered was guiding the way. A few sections were muddy and slippery, but it was flat, buttery, and way better than the icy conditions I ran last winter.
Regardless, the road crossing always makes me nervous, and there were too many people on the streets because of Thanksgiving weekend, especially on 5th Avenue and around Bryant Park. The holiday market is already open in Bryant Park, making it difficult to maneuver to finish. But it was a great run to burn off the turkey!!
