We took the Bucklin trail up and down Killington Peak first. Next was Abraham and Ellen as a traverse. We left one car at the Battell trailhead, and drove to the Jerusalem trail to start up Ellen, across the ridge to Abraham, and then back down to our car spot. From there we drove to Camels Hump, taking the Burrows trail up and down. Finally we drove to Underhill State Park to take the Sunset Ridge trail up to the summit of Mansfield. The winter parking added an extra mile or so on the road here from the summer parking lot. Ground conditions were entirely snow and ice for the duration, ice was very prevalent near the summit of Killington and above the tree line on Mansfield. Lots of time could easily be taken off of this variation. One of the hardest things about doing this in the winter was the constant starting and stopping- I would get out of the car and be very cold from cooling down on the drive over to the next trailhead. Added incentive to keep it moving! My strava attachment includes the hike down from Mansfield, but the FKT route is stopped at the summit. Besides a few snacks and limited water in my pack, I left lots of food and water in my car to refuel.
