On Sunday February 16th, I started the LOViT trail beginning at the Avery Trailhead at 7:46am. The weather at the start was colder than I would have liked (low 30's with wind chill in the low 20's) and the strong headwind made for a challenging few miles on the ridge line causing my fingers to go numb but the views were worth it! I was thankful for the afternoon sun to make the temperatures more enjoyable. I got off trail near the spillway for a little bit, accidentally following a jeep road, when the trail turned but noticed fairly quickly. I was worried the recent rain would make the water-crossings difficult, but much to my surprise, the trail was in good condition with only a few muddy spots. I carried all of my own supplies. For hydration, I carried 3 bottles (one handheld & two in my vest). I had planned to fill up at the pipe spring (mile 19ish) but had only finished one bottle at that point and decided to skip refilling. I packed more calories than I needed consisting of Huma gels, fruit snacks, an Oatmeal Cream Pie, and Reese's Fastbreaks). I finished at the ADA Trailhead with an elapsed time of 8:17:39.
