I started from the east trailhead of the North Country Trail in the Sheyenne National Grasslands at 5:59 am; I finished at 11:38 am. I cached water the day before the attempt, but my partner joined me for the first 4 miles, so this is a supported attempt. Around mile 36, a herd of cows was blocking the trail, I saw at least two baby calves almost directly on the trail. It wasn’t safe to continue along the trail, so I gave the cows a wide berth (walking through the grasslands; as instructed by trail directions) until it was safe to be on the trail again. The biggest hazard on the trail was cows; the scariest part of the day was trying to give the herd at the end as wide of a berth as possible so they didn’t charge. Overall, it was a beautiful day and perfect to be in the grasslands.
