I decided to run from East to West - So from Lyme Regis to Exmouth because I live in Devon so it felt right to go this way. My husband dropped me at Lyme Regis where I realised that the start of the last FKT attempt hadn't quite started at the very beginning of the East Devon Way. The previous attempt had been from a cricket club 1.3 miles up from Lyme Regis near Uplyme. It is quite confusing as one website does say the start (or finish depending which way you go!) is from that cricket club but the actual start is from The Square in Lyme Regis; there are the waymarkings just up from this location.
It is a really pretty route with forests, rivers, a pretty old railway line, a lovely common and many many cows! Also many many gates! There was a mix of weather, really rainy to start with and by the finish it was hot sunshine. There was mixed terrain along the way to keep things interesting - a few little sections of road, cycle path, gravel and rocky paths and lots of grassy and woodland trails. With lots of stunning views and hills to get the legs working!
I left a bag with water, Tailwind and extra snacks at half way which was perfect to replenish my supplies.
I ran the entire route alone and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.
(I tried to add a few photos but it does not seem to be working but there are more on my strava link)
