I started at the Reno Arch at 8:52 AM on 10/28/2024. I strategically planned a slow morning because the wind speeds were decreasing as the day progressed. I cached my trail shoes at the Pinehaven/Hunter Lake (dirt) Road intersection making this effort self-supported. These 4x4 roads are in my backyard so I felt right at home. When I arrived at Hunter Lake I grabbed some water and was ready to take on an off-trail section, some miles on the less frequented Rim to Reno trail, and the ridgeline up to Church Peak and my final destination. This is where things got cold! The sun that had been shining when I left Reno had been replaced with thick clouds and some hail. The last view of Tahoe was from the Church Peak summit. When I arrived at Mt. Rose summit, I was fully surrounded by clouds.
Thank you, Jacob Cooper for creating this FKT and for sharing your 2019 route!
