This is my second unsupported attempt. My first attempt missed the FKT due to navigation errors. This run had fewer course deviations that were quickly resolved.
Weather was 37°F and overcast. I had a light down jacket with zipper and a hat, so I could unzip the jacket, roll the sleeves, and remove the hat as I warmed up.
Trail conditions were dry with leaf cover. Traction was mediocre but manageable with my old Altra Solstice shoes. No falls or significant injuries.
For fueling, I ran on an empty stomach and drank 1 L of water prior to starting. I did not run with any calories, electrolytes, or water. I was a bit too warm for the first half, which caused me to sweat too much by mile 13 that my calves started cramping. I replenished electrolytes by consuming dried sweat (ew), which stopped the cramping. In retrospect, it would have been best to bring a gel packet or two.
It was good being back in Michigan for a second try. Kudos to Jimmy Abraham for creating the route!
