I attempted this route solo, unsupported on the morning of December 5th 2025. The conditions were cool in town and pretty intensely hot on the trail, especially on the exposed slopes.

The in-town running is fun, the stairs are a shock to the system, but it’s all well maintained and very runnable. No traffic to speak of too.

The initial trail section was difficult to route finding, I believe due to a bulldozer moving earth around above. Once onto the better travelled trail the route finding ‘should’ ease up. I took an unintended trail that led to the bottom of the arroyo, thankfully the nature of this route is that its point to point to point, with the running in between left to the interpretation and instinct of the runner. I was able to contour out of the arroyo and regain the ridge, albeit totally in the red by this point and feeling pretty gassed. Once at the top I dialled up the Speedlands a notch tighter and set off downhill knowing I had time to make up.

The route finding on the descent is marginally easier but still not out of the woods.

My goal was to retrace my steps once back in town but I managed to take a fork in some stairs that led me astray a little due to my nav app freezing. Thankfully all roads lead to the centre on Guanajuato and google maps showed me I was a couple hundred metres away. A sprint finish through the hordes of tourists to the steps of Teatro Juarez sealed the deal. Just.
