Wildwood – the final segment in my sweep of Forest Park crowns! The longest line in my 5,200 acre backyard wilds, I aimed for the FKT-effort on October 8, just 11 days after my last 50k. Unsupported, yet the ecosystem felt in sync, pushing my record with cool temps, minimal leaves, and most importantly, dry bridges – iykyk. One pee stop and no stretch breaks – a true hump day special marked by blue diamonds.
I carried 2L of fluid total (4 500ml flasks) – two handhelds and two in a belt. I only consumed 1.5L. Consumed ~210g carbs through gels and drink mix. Fully unsupported – my fiancée took photos at the start line and finish line.
No Doubt’s Spiderwebs is a metaphor for getting caught in life’s dramas and distractions. The irony of it soundtracking my FKT is that you literally run through spiderwebs on the trail – a constant reminder of the species I share this space with, and a quiet symbol of being content to forge my own path, even if it means following lines less traveled.
Stoked with how this felt – the positivity in the air was so strong.
