FKT: Liliane Knüsel, Leona Knüsel - Lake Lucerne Circumnavigation on Routes 98/99 (Switzerland) - 2020-07-12

As all our races for 2020 were cancelled due to COVID-19, we joined our friend Frank Muggli in his project to run a loop around Lake Lucerne. The three of us started together in Meggen and we managed to keep up with Frank until the climb to Bürgenstock. Along the route, we received support from friends and family at six aid stations (Alpnachstad, Buochs, Seelisberg, Sisikon, Gersau and Weggis) and also refilled bottles along the way on public fountains. For the last 34km from Gersau, we were joined by a mutual friend who paced us towards the finish line. It was a great experience to start and end such an adventure in the village were we grew up and have the support and cheering of loved ones along the way. A lesson learned: A bit more time spent at the Gym would have made the downhills not as hard on our quads and would have brought a sub 24hour circumnavigation within our reach.
