This was such a beautiful challenge in Harpers Ferry. I uploaded the gpx into Strava and reviewed the full course, individual climbs, crucial turns, and landmarks to make sure I followed the route accurately. I really appreciated the comments from past runners to share insights on the course and navigating the sections of the AT. I started at the very end tip of the River Access Parking lot, and ran across the bridge to complete the Loudoun Heights trail first. The fall leaves made for tricky footwork but it was such a colorful wonderland under the autumn trees. The view of the calm river below was lovely. The descent back down was smooth as I crossed over to the parking lot to hop on the AT that lead into town. I crossed the footbridge, navigating many hikers, before cruising up Maryland Heights. This section is a steep grind to the top but the view is always so nice of the town below. The descent down was a speedy one as I let myself let loose on the steady gravel trail. The canal towpath section was flat but mentally challenging knowing there were many miles to go before Weverton. It was a beautiful run alongside the River until I crossed the railroad tracks to pick up the AT again to Weverton Cliffs. This climb, although steep, meandered nicely and was also just gorgeous with colorful leaves and a breathtaking view. At this point, I had only taken nutrition gels up to this point, so I pulled out my PB&J to fuel the final descent and race back through town. Once crossing the footbridge once more, I followed the lower road back to the parking lot, at the very end where I had started. It was such a cool route to run up each popular hike while taking in the charm of the historic area.
