I invested a good amount of time planning and refining the route, then scouting it one section at a time during my training runs. Before the attempt, I was confident I could beat the existing 3:18:59 FKT, and I believed a sub-3-hour finish was also within reach, as it turned out to be.
I made only one minor navigation mistake, briefly passing the base of the Redcliff–Cicero stairs. I also lost about two minutes after the first two hours of running while trying to open a gel and consume it without chewing too much of the packaging. Hence a sub 3:55:00 would have been feasible.
Note
I followed the exact list of staircase specified by Cameron. However, according to the Silver Lake section of the blog "Los Angeles: Climbing the Hidden Stairways (https://laclimbingthehiddenstairways.blogspot.com/2013/06/staircases-in-silver-lake.html), the list includes one staircase located in Echo Park (London-Bellevue) and misses Easterly-Fanning (108 steps), Occidental South (30 steps) and 4 and 5 more Silver Lake stairs with 20 steps or less. Perhaps the list of stairs should be updated or a new proper Silver Lake staircase FKT challenge should be created.
Nutrition: 1 NeverSecond C90 + 1 C30 gel.
