Run as part of the annual 'Fatass' 12 Foot track event, which I witnessed in 2008 whilst slowly hiking the Six Foot track (Katoomba to Jenolan Caves) one way. Runners going out and back blew my mind! Never imagined that I would get into running in the next few years and 12 years later would actually run the 12 Foot as well! The Six Foot track race crosses the Coxs river rather than using the swing bridge, which is on the official walking track, as the bridge can only take one person at a time. It is traditional to cross the river on 12 Foot but it was in high flood (I have never seen it like this and have raced four Six foots and trained here many times) and raging hard, so was impassable by foot on this day. It is a minor variation and both are accepted. The bridge variation is a little longer and slower, especially if you have to wait for someone to cross as I did on the way back. Many creeks to cross that were also high so wet feet anyway for most of the run and some good blisters to show for it later... Lots of runners out today and although I left on my own and ran solo unsupported I saw many runners on my way back. There was plenty of water at creeks and campsites and I carried all my food. My GPX is a bit longer as I added 18km/1200m at the end to complete the UTMB 100km/4500m virtual race as well. Big day but fantastic!
