Up visiting a friend in the peaks so thought I would have a cracking at this route. Got dropped of at Ilam and started around 9.30. Weather was warm but overcast so ideal for running. Was wet and muddy underfoot at times but most of the route is on hard trails. Stunning journey with huge variety of terrain and views. The highlight was coming over a hill and arriving on a well kept grass hill top with views of Chatsworth then flying down the hill on springy grass. Made one nav error fairly early on and had to cut cross fell to rejoin the route. Unfortunately I was the wrong side of the river so had to follow the sheep track for a couple of kms and missed out on the fast looking surfaced path on the other side. Had hoped for a Bakewell pudding in Bakewell but it was very busy and I wanted to push on. At the finish church in Eyam there is a 'sign in' book to record completion of the Hope Pilgrimage so I made a note in there of my journey. I was completely unsupported; I carried and drank 1l water, 8 gels and one bar. Could have done with more water. At Eyam the village shop shut at 13.00 but I had a lovely refuel in one of the 2 tea rooms. Highly recommended route.
