Started at 6:59 am from Lebanon with heavy fog. Was eating food I had packed on the move, but took a longer walk break to stretch + eat after 15 miles. Saw some porta-potties as needed, but if also felt like there were longer stretches of trail between towns. Stopped again at the Danbury Country Store (close to halfway - ~26 miles in), refilled water and bought some snacks. Didn't visit another establishment after that, but there were some gas stations later in the route that would have been easily accessible to restock. Felt pretty good until about miles 36-43, when I started to feel the hours and some pretty significant blisters, so I mixed in some walking. Came back around and felt good to run the remaining 7 miles to 50 in ~8:30ish (a new PB!), but hit another low to the end. Pretty mentally taxing finishing stretches - most of the rail trail does look very similar, and the sight lines are long. It can feel like you're just running in place for a lot of the stretches and the minutes really stretch. But, it's a great fast, flat, and quiet route, perfect for moving at pace if you want to see how quickly you can cover the distance.
Weather this time of year was perfect and the leaves were just starting to turn in some areas. It was cool throughout the day, and the route is very shaded (although it was already very cloudy - I wouldn't have gotten much sun anyway).
I was originally prepared to do it unsupported (brought a water filter and bag), but was eating slightly more than I expected and didn't want to have to deal with filtering water. I was dropped off at the start and picked up at the end by my partner, but had no additional support. The route was not crowded, but there was still some traffic, especially bicyclists throughout the day.
