Great day out on the Mount Vernon trail with Spencer from the base of Key Bridge down to George Washington's house. Temp was peak fall perfection and there was no wind out on the Potomac which was a treat. Kept the pace steady around 730s or so and was trying to enjoy the day. I hadn't ever run past the airport so it was all new territory. We really enjoyed running through Alexandria and some of the other areas later on. The path started to get hilly & windy at 12 miles, and it was a bit tough since it was also very covered in leaves! Luckily it was dry yesterday so it wasn't slippery, but it wasn't fast, either. The scenery was awesome as you are along the Potomac for nearly the entire time. The final hill took the wind out of my sails and it was a relief to see the mile 0 marker. The gift shop at Mount Vernon was open and stocked so we grabbed some water & snacks. Spencer had a hand-held but I only took a few sips at mile 12, and didn't bring any food along the way.
