My friend Dean Mercer and I set out on the Northbound point-to-point 57.75km Dobson Trail at 5:09am on June 21, 2025. The official  Northbound start (or Southbound end) of the Dobson Trail is on the edge of the Fundy National Park, at the convergence of Shepody Road and Dorman Road. Our destination was the end (or Southbound start) of the Dobson Trail in Riverview, New Brunswick.

Our FKT attempt was considered Supported, as there were three aid stations set up roughly 18km apart by Dobson Trail volunteers. This wasn’t a race, rather a public hike event in celebration of the Dobson Trail’s 65th anniversary. We decided to run the trail as an FKT while others were hiking and also trail running. We filled up our water flasks at each of the three aid stations, and had some of their trail snacks. We finished the trail run at 1:01pm, with a total elapsed time of 7 hours and 52 minutes. The weather was cool and breezy, sun and cloud, very good for running. The trail conditions were muddy and swampy in many sections due to rain the days prior. Maybe about 60 to 70% of the trail was runnable, the rest was navigating mud bogs.

Our two Garmin watches recorded the distance with a 2km variance, which may be a result of watch satellite settings being different. The advertised distance from the official website says the trail is 57.75km. Special thanks to the trail volunteers from the Fundy Hiking Trail Association’s Dobson Trail for their aid stations and logistics suggestions and help, it made it a fun FKT attempt.
