I'd been thinking about running this route for a while but never made any plans to do it. The sun was shining and running this route looked more interesting than just banging out 20miles as an out-and-back on the Taff Trail so I decided to just do it.
I jogged over to the cathedral and was greeted by a full congregation singing at Sunday Service. I awkwardly stood at the open doors and then set off for Penrhys. The trail is a lovely undulating mix of grass, mud and small sections of quiet road and the miles passed easily up until the final hill. That last hill was a real wall under the midday sun and it was a relief to get up to the golf course and see the end in sight. The well itself isn't worth a visit, but the trail was worth it. After finishing I jogged down the hill to catch the train back to Cardiff Central with a detour into a shop for a coke and an ice cream. A morning well spent!
I carried a 500ml bottle with carb mix in a bumbag along with a few gels.
