Phil taking this FKT away from Conor and I under a month after we set it was a thorn in my side. Didn't have the fitness last fall to go after it, so it was on the back burner until now.
I carried my gels, and had planned to put out water on the course like last time, but a below freezing overnight nixed that idea. Huge shout out to my wife, Lisa for biking alongside to hand me water.
Early wake up after the clocks changed meant it wasn't that crazy, but I was hoping for low car traffic, and certainly got that. It was COLD on the blue bike to the start. Did a brief round of activations and set to it. Started at a hot pace from the gun and began thinking I'd either crush or blow up spectacularly. The cold started to freeze my contact lenses a bit, which probably helped me turn my brain off. I fell into the rhythm of it, the climbs weren't an issue, they helped break up the run. I did turn the wrong way at one point after coming out of Medford center, so I was kicking myself for the blunder. It's a long way into the Lexington battle green, and that's where my spirits started getting low, but the jog out to the Hancock house is a fun diversion that marks the beginning of the end.
I'm very excited to have gotten under 1:40, the stone marker at the capture site says "1:39am" so if Paul Revere left his house *at midnight*, this might be the actual FKT on foot for either man or beast.
