Overall, this went as planned on timing! Also, overall, it hurt. The weather helped ease some pain. No rain, 40s and 50s, with sun. Nearly 90% of this was on paved surface. The first 20ish miles were gradually uphil, so my legs slowly felt more and more like bricks. I just wanted to keep an average under 12min/mile, which i did, even with a lot more walking from mile 35 to 50.
I didn't really see too many people from my 5:15am start until a little after 7am. Then traffic picked up. Most of the people were walking or biking. After reaching the Boring Trailhead, I did an extra out-and-back on the northern segment of the Cazadero State Trail, which was downhill out. So, more uphill back to Boring. It was not paved, so at least I had that going for me.
The long 20ish miles back to Portland went well. There was a lot more traffic! Again, most of them were biking or walking. Any runners were going the opposite direction, so there were plenty of 👋 to them.
Fuel included gels (x4), gummies, fruit snacks, mini-stroopwaffles, baby food (x2), a Mamma Chia, pickles, bits, and a Larabar. My hydration was Nuun.
My unofficial time on just the out-and-back of the Springwater Corridor Trail was 8:22:18, but, from the start of and back to my starting point again, I had a time of 9:38:55.
This can be beaten, so go after my time!Â
