Saw this new route was posted last week, and I decided I had to give it a go.
The trails are slick and sloppy. Lots of ice of varying consistency. Microspikes worked well in the slick spots, but I had to pull them off/put them on quite a few times. This FKT can be taken down quite a bit in better conditions.
I hope this becomes a competitive route, I’m glad someone put it up.
My run started just after 4 PM. It was the first warm day of the year (65 at start), so most of the ice was slushy enough. I ran them in order: up Blueberry Bluff to Big A,Chestnut Oak to second mtn, and then down incline/Notch/Wheel to Ledge Trail for third mtn. Starting so late, I had no competition on the trails. The only people I saw were in the parking lot, and a handful on the grassy summit of Big A. I backtracked down Ledge trail, to Notch then Incline. Once on the ridge, I ran around second to porcupine trail, but up to the Ring Trail, then down to the car.
