Ran my route a close to the original FKT as possible with minor changes which I felt were truer to the Salt Creek Greenway course. Also added an additional 1/4 mile or so by getting off track and then backtracking to the course. The route is mostly straight forward but can be tricky to navigate at times due to times where streets connect the path and a small portion where it runs along the Illinois Prairie Path (hard to tell when to hop back off).
I achieved several firsts today: 1) First long run with a beard. Didn't like it 2) Ran 20+ miles in trail running shoes. Dumb 3) First FKT. Awesome! 4) Longest unsupported run for me. I also ran from the North to South and hit headwinds for first 13 miles, should have run the other way. I brought too much water and got a sunburn. All is all it was a fun day regardless. Props to Michael and Alena Weicher for logging the original run.
