Have done this route before with my husband and it is a really lovely route - today was less muddy but the stingers very overgrown. Currently practicing navigation using my watch GPX and needed a four hour run, so this was perfect to run again solo and do my own navigation. Carried everything I needed (1 1/2 L drink and gels / food) although forgot salt capsules and it was a really warm day so suffered in the last hour or so. Face planted when I hit a root 3 miles from the finish but at least the navigation was a success! Ran the whole route solo.
Had an issue with my watch as with the GPX I downloaded from the FKT site, rather than it continuing the circular route (which usually it does if I don’t start at the same place as the downloaded route), it stopped where the GPX route stopped / started (I started and finished at Peacock Farm Pub and Restaurant, GPX was the lookout to lookout). It only took a few seconds to reset and get running again, but I have included that in the total time by subtracting time of day when I finished from time of day when I started (worked out from both strava runs). Started just before the telegraph pole by the pub and finished just after it to ensure the whole route completed. Total time 3 hrs 53 mins 56 and total distance 26.44 miles (a few minor navi errors where I had to backtrack and correct)
This route has some really nice trails and woodlands and being circular, is really simple logistically. There are also lots of options for start points as plenty of parking along the route.
