Started and finished at the carpark in Southam (public toilets available which is always a bonus). It's a lovely route but underfoot much of the ground was cracked and rutted making it really hard work. I used to live around here and never knew half of it existed, so finding new paths and then popping up in villages I knew gave the run an element of intrigue.
There were several farmer's fields where the path had not been left through the crops making some of it un-runnable. One of the fields I had to go around the outside as they hadn't left a path and were ploughing it so it wasn't possible to cross (going round was further and equally horrible under foot).
HS2 diversion also still in place so followed the pedestrian diversion.
Lots of overgrown fields that shredded my legs and deposited numerous annoying seeds in my socks and shoes. 1 x wasp sting and 1 x face plant to add to the fun.
Ran solo and carried everything I needed including 2L electrolytes as I knew it would be warm.
The route is varied and despite the overgrown sections and rutted paths, it was an enjoyable route. There are small sections of road, some canal towpaths and some woodland trails which all provided a nice breather from the fields. A few too many gates for my liking and a few bits where I found the navigation tricky, but on the whole it is well signposted.
