A beautiful, challenging point-to-point route from the heart of Cusco to the sacred valley in Písac.
The day started with a commute from Urubamba to Cusco by colectivo, followed by a quick taxi ride to the starting point at Plaza de Armas.
The route begins with a climb through Sacsayhuamán, transitioning from smooth, friendly paths into highly technical, steep, and vertical mountain sections. After clearing the Abra (mountain pass), the trail rewards you with stunning views of several high-altitude alpine lakes. The weather was an ideal mix of sun and clouds, keeping conditions perfect for pushing the pace.
Navigation & Terrain Notes:
- Navigation: Several sections of the trail are faint and poorly defined. A reliable GPS track is absolutely essential to stay on course.
- The Descent: While you can follow the main dirt road (trocha) down into Písac, using the GPS to cut through the smaller, technical singletrack shortcuts makes for a much better descent.
Personal Performance:
My legs were definitely feeling the heavy fatigue from last week's intense training blocks during the steep climbs. Despite the tired body, it was an incredible experience. This FKT time can absolutely be lowered, and I look forward to seeing someone—or myself—break it in the future!
