NOTE: Do not use the .gpx file from the FKT route. It skips almost every corner, and with many of the signs missing, it makes navigation more challenging than it should be. My .gpx file from Garmin isn't perfect but it's better than the current one (which at one point calls for a right turn when the waymarkers point left).
Setting off from Hull at 4:30am for what was due to be a hot May day at 26c I wanted to get a march on the heat. Making it to start at 4:45am, when it started to rain! Navigating out of Belevely was a little tricky, but I was soon out in the fields, with rain and the morning dew, and my feet were very wet. All was going to plan, clocking a sensible 4hr 45min marathon as I hit the hills of the Wolds, arriving at the highest point as a storm rolled in.
Knowing I needed to fill my water bladder, I was on the lookout for a tap, which I found in Great Givendale (~30miles from the start). This ensured I could remain unspported, the B plan was to move to self-supported if I needed to use the Co-Op in Stamford Bridge.
I took a fall with half a marathon to go, which saw me take a hard landing, thus I slowed down to bring it home safe in the heat.
York was extremely busy, having seen about 3 people all day on the route.
After a little rest on the grass outside York Minster, it was time to head to the train station, which I had to run to!
