On August 15th of 2010, I covered 100K of the North Central State Trail, from the trail head at Mackinaw city, to the soccer fields in Gaylord MI, in 13 hours, 52 minutes, 35 seconds. According to the Top of Michigan Trails council, I was the first, and so far only person to run the trail in one day. My run was supported by my wife and kids, who drove ahead and met with supplies at pre-determined points. I was also accompanied by friends, training partners, and Top of Michigan Trails Executive Director, Jeff Wineguard who all took turns keeping me company during the day.
This year, on October 15th, an ultra and team relay will be held on this trail, and I'm sure this record will fall. With cooler temps and less humidity,(last summer the afternoon high hit 92, with 80% humidity) it will be done in under 10 hours, so I'm sure it will be a short-lived record, and when it is beaten, I'll update this post.
Until then though, its my one-and-only course record.
I would have posted this sooner, but just read about this site in Trail Runner.
