Report

I completed the Herz des Mostviertels Rundwanderweg on July 4, 2025, almost a year ago. A friend suggested only a few weeks ago that I should upload my effort to the FKT website. Until then, I didn't even know this website existed, so I'm submitting my run almost a year after completing it.

The attempt itself was quite spontaneous. One of the creators of the route asked me if I wanted to be the first person to complete the entire trail in a single push, and I said yes. The run took place just three and a half weeks after I had finished the Mozart100 (120 km with 5,500 m of elevation gain), so I was still carrying some fatigue from that race.

We turned the run into a small community event. I had bike support for almost the entire route, and anyone who wanted could join me for a few kilometers, either running or cycling alongside me. One friend stayed with me for nearly 80 km, which I think is an incredible effort in itself. Several other friends also joined for shorter sections, making the day even more special.

For nutrition and hydration, I carried a running vest with food and water and refilled it whenever needed. Friends who were waiting for me at different points along the route, as well as those cycling with me, helped with resupplies. I took two longer breaks, one around kilometer 40 and another around kilometer 80.

Overall, the run went very well. The day started with pleasant temperatures, cloudy skies, and a little rain. Around the 50 km mark, a thunderstorm rolled in, and I had to wait for about 20 minutes before it was safe to continue. I kept my watch running during the entire stop. Once the storm had passed, the weather cleared, but the final 35 km became extremely hot and humid. That section was by far the toughest part of the day, but I managed to push through to the finish.

Crossing the finish line was a fantastic moment. A lot of people were there waiting for me, and it was amazing to share the finish with everyone who had supported me throughout the day. I'm especially grateful to all the runners and cyclists who joined me for parts of the route. Their company and encouragement made this much more than just a long run. It was a truly memorable experience.
